We had a spectacular day (Saturday 16^th May) at the MTTC celebrating the recent 100 anniversary of the Table Tennis World Cup held in London earlier this month.  We had 32 teams representing the top 32 countries in the world from clubs all over Kent. Sweden won the Division 1 competition with Argentina winning Division 2. Nigeria was unanimously voted as best dress team and the fair play award went to India & Singapore. Well done to all players and parents involved.

We plan for teams of 2 players (known as their allocated country – see below) to play ideally 4 random intercountry matches (consisting of 4 singles matches and 1 double match all played best of 5 games/sets) on Sat. 16th May, from 9am – 5pm/5.30pm at

• Saturday 16th May 9am – 5.30pm and players will be required to get involved in umpiring and playing as a team.  We welcome sports volunteers and parents help with umpiring and ensuring players get on with matches.   We will have some Maidstone TT club sports volunteers to help with umpiring and helping making sure that the event runs smoothly.
• Bring plenty to drink, snacks and a packed lunch as there is no food to buy on site.
• Parents or club coaches are responsible for their young players, unless parents have made special arrangements with other parents/coaches to supervise their child (leaving medical details and emergency telephone contacts)
• We hope to create a lovely ‘country’ friendly atmosphere and possible opening ceremony.
• We expect excellent player behaviour both off and on the T.T. table and there will be prizes for Fair Play/Respect, as well as prizes for Div. Wnrs and RUp.
• Some of you have already paid entry fees already via BAC’s and some are planning on paying: £20 per player/£40 per team cash on the day of the actual tournament.  The BAC’s details are as follows, to pay your £20 entry fee is:

Reminders:

• We actively would like teams of 2 players allocated a country, to create a flag/country sign and wear their countries colours, if at all possible (please do not spend lots of money, be creative and recycle things to adapt).  So please liaise and discuss with your playing partner and parents about how you would like to represent your country. An email would have been sent out to you as you have signed up for the tournament and paid. We hope players learn something about their country!
• We will devise a schedule of 2 divisions/leagues and each country will play  4 random  inter-country matches throughout the day and all matches will be played in good sporting spirits and we actively encourage positive teamwork working together and showing respect for players, opponents, umpires and organisers.
• If any players are off sick/cannot attend for any reason please let me know as soon as possible.  We hope your players have a unique and memorable Table Tennis experience.

Get behind all the TT action with of the ITTF World Team Table Tennis Championships. England mens and ladies teams are both playing from this weekend onwards. This is a rare event to get a world class level event playing so close to home.

30 MTTC members and parents really enjoyed going up to watch some of the best matches in World TT – including our very own nation in action.

With thanks to our support from the Sport England Movement Fund, we are very pleased to have gained another three tables (and barriers etc) at the MTTC venue. This will come in great use to increase the capacity to 18 tables/courts for our training and coached sessions – that are being very well attended. We hope you all enjoy and make good use of them!

The MTTC Cadet team did the club very proud by winning the Division 3 of the Cadet British Club League last week in the final tournament of the season. Fantastic effort from all involved both last week and the previous rounds to build up to this great result – it really shows how all the Juniors are improving in just one year! We won 6-3, 7-2 and all came down to the last match winner takes all where we won 5-4 (nerves of steel). Congratulations on your great performance and to all 6 (Flynn, Raffaele, Kiran, Tristan, Harry K and Daniel) that played in the four Sunday tournaments.

 

We are hoping to continue this form next season!

 

 

At MTTC, we are very pleased with our range of Junior/Adult T-shirts and polos. These are ideal for all club nights and local table tennis competitions. They are available at any club night either at the front door of the hall on the hanger or in the store cupboard (speak to Bruce, Adrian or Delyth) on the night to have a look or buy. We also have some decent new beginner/intermediate table tennis bats available to buy for anyone getting into the sport and wanting their own equipment. They are a solid bat for new and intermediate players with good general control, spin and speed. Price = £20

 

Well done again to all the juniors we had playing a the Cadet British League Event. They won their division have been promoted back up to Division 3 for the next, and final, round of the season.

It was such a close competition, it went down to count back on games/points for the promotion. Goes to show every point counts win or lose – great effort.
